Prohibitions & Restrictions

Border Force is committed to ensuring a safe and compliant flow of goods into our beautiful islands. By understanding these regulations, you contribute to maintaining the safety, security, and integrity of the Turks and Caicos Islands' communities.

 

Prohibited Goods

Certain items are strictly prohibited from entering or leaving the Turks and Caicos Islands. This includes:

  • False or counterfeit coins or notes
  • Meats, vegetables or other food unfit for human consumption
  • All obscene publications
  • Endangered species of animals
  • Counterfeit goods
  • Plants likely to introduce plants into the Turks and Caicos Islands

These goods will be either confiscated, a severe fine imposed and/or you could be prosecuted.

 

Restricted Goods

Some items are restricted from being imported into the Turks and Caicos Islands

You need a permit from the relevant agency/department in the Turks and Caicos Islands to bring the following items with you.

  • Controlled drugs: It is an offence to illegal import controlled drugs into the Turks and Caicos Islands. These include cannabis-infused products, cannabidiol derivatives, any oils containing cannabidiol, and certain medications. A doctor's prescription may validate certain prescribed medications.
  • registered drugs.
  • Firearms and ammunition
  • Explosives
  • Animals susceptible to rabies
  • Hawaiian slings and spears

If you illegally bring restricted goods to TCI, goods will be either confiscated or re-exported at the owner's expense, a severe fine imposed and/or you could be prosecuted.

 

Travelling With Money

There is no limit on the amount of US dollars or foreign cash that may be brought into or taken out of the Turks and Caicos Islands, you must declare cash or other negotiable instruments with a value over USD 10,000.00

Reporting is required by law and failure to do so is an offence.

 

Obligations of Travellers

As a responsible traveller, you must be aware of and comply with the regulations governing the import and export of goods. Ensure that your luggage and belongings are free from prohibited items and that any restricted goods are properly declared and authorized.

 

Reporting Violations

If you become aware of any attempts to smuggle prohibited goods or notice suspicious activities, we encourage you to report them to the appropriate authorities promptly. Your cooperation is essential in maintaining the safety and well-being of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
