Visas & Permits

If you are planning to visit or work here, it's important to understand the entry requirements to make your journey smooth and hassle-free. Below, we've simplified the information about visas and work permits to help you comply with the regulations.

Work Permits for Employment

If you plan to work in the Turks and Caicos Islands you will need a work permit. Employers usually handle the application process, but it's essential to be aware of the requirements:

Job Offer: Secure a job offer from a local employer. They will guide you through the work permit application process.

Application Submission: Your employer will submit the work permit application on your behalf to the Turks and Caicos Islands Government.

Required Documents: Ensure you provide all necessary documents, including a valid passport, proof of job offer, and health certificate.

Processing Time: The processing time for work permits varies, so it's advisable to apply well in advance of your planned start date.

Temporary Work Permits (TWP)

If you're planning to engage in gainful occupation or commercial activities in the Turks and Caicos Islands for a short period (up to ten calendar days), you'll need a Temporary Work Permit (TWP). You can either have the TWP in hand or collect it at the airport upon arrival. This permit is essential for those involved in business with entities licensed under the Business Licensing Ordinance. Make sure to have your TWP ready and comply with the specific time constraints during your stay.

Business Visitors Permits (BVP)

If you regularly employ non-residents temporarily for business purposes, consider applying for a Business Visitors Permit (BVP). Here are the key details:

  1. Annual Application: Submit an annual application indicating the number of persons, visits, occupations, and the maximum duration of stay.
  2. Limitations: BVPs are issued for a maximum of seven days per visit and are not granted to those ineligible for work permits.

This permit is ideal for businesses with temporary staffing needs, allowing seamless operations within legal boundaries.

Homeowner's Permit

Non-residents owning a home in the Turks and Caicos Islands should apply for a Homeowner's Permit. Here's what you need to do:

Eligibility: Demonstrate ownership of a home valued at no less than $300,000.

Financial Capability: Prove your ability to support yourself and your dependents.

Permit Validity: Homeowner's Permits are typically valid for five years, extendable or renewable.

Conditions: Abide by conditions outlined in the permit, such as refraining from gainful occupation.

Visas

A person wanting to visit the Turks and Caicos Islands who is from a country requiring a visa, must apply for a visa before arrival in TCI. To apply for a visa, the person has to furnish the relevant TCI authority with correct information regarding their criminal record, surety and proof of vaccination for applicants over the age of 12.

Visa Extensions and Work Permit Renewals

If you need to extend your stay or renew your work permit, make sure to initiate the process before your current permit expires. Late applications may result in penalties, and it's important to comply with the immigration rules.
