Response to Illegal Migrant Landing in Venetian Road Area

Providenciales, 21st February 2024- On Monday, 19th February 2024, at 1:26 pm, authorities were alerted to sightings of suspicious activity and reports of an illegal migrant vessel making landfall in the Venetian Road area. In a demonstration of prompt action, the Task Force within Border Force, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, swiftly responded to the reports.

Upon arrival, a blue vessel approximately 28 feet in length was discovered anchored near the shore. The vessel was retrieved for further examination and investigation by Border Force in conjunction with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force’s (RTCIPF) marine branch. Given the dimensions of the vessel, preliminary estimations suggest that it could have potentially accommodated between 40 to 50 migrants, even under tightly packed conditions.

In response to additional reports from residents in the Bristol Hill area, the Task Force, in close coordination with various law enforcement agencies, including the Regiment and RTCIPF Air Support and Tactical units, mobilised to the scene. As a result of their efforts, seven migrants attempting to evade capture were apprehended.

One individual among the apprehended required medical attention and has since received treatment at Cheshire Medical Center and was subsequently, transferred to the Immigration Department’s detention centre along with the other detainees.

Border Force continues to maintain heightened vigilance and operational presence in the Venetian Road area to ensure the swift apprehension of any additional migrants.

Border Force reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding our borders and ensuring the safety and security of our communities. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to the authorities by calling 911.
